The proposed breakaway league of the "Team Owners Association" would consist of the following USL-1 teams:

Carolina: Who have now announced that they will not field a team in 2010
Miami FC: Who are on the verge of folding after losing money for their first four years.
Minnesota Thunder
Montreal Impact: Who are trying to get into MLS as soon as possible.
Vancouver Whitecaps: Who will be entering MLS in 2011.
Atlanta Silverbacks: Who were on "hiatus" last season.
Tampa Bay Rowdies: An expansion team that have yet to play a match.
St. Louis Soccer United: An expansion "group" who don't even have a team yet.
Carolina Railhawks: Who will not play in 2010.

I'm confused.

How can the USSF "Get it together for once..."? How can they sanction this league that does not now, and may not ever, exist?! And beyond that, why would they sanction a league that cannot guarantee the minimum of eight teams to start with, much less after the guaranteed exit of Vancouver after one season and the probable exit of at least on other team (Montreal) with in a year or two after that? I guess they could convince Portland to join, but they'll be joining MLS in 2011, so that's not really going to help. If the other USL-1 teams (Cleveland, Charleston, etc.) haven't joined at this point, why would they?

And also, USL is in a state of limbo at the moment with the events that Bucholtz reported with the USL heading into a huge split. With eight of the former USL teams heading into a group together, that includes the two more popular Canadian teams like the Whitecaps and Impact.

I do agree, the USSF can't do a whole lot right now, although the group that's splitting from the USL needs USSF sanctioning to even be approved as a legal body. So, who knows, really?

It's ryeday (2$) at the campus bar. It's all about showing up for 8:30-10:30 class, waiting at the bar until it's allowed to open at 11, ordering a pair, and then heading to 11:30 class. Done school at 2:30.

I'm allowed to take some enjoyment in this, it has been a rough week.

A few points:

What Two Yellows said was that the best "regular season team" was out of the playoffs. Would you indict the entire MLB/NBA/NFL/NHL if their best regular season team lost in the first round, or would you blame the team? I may not like the playoff format, but Columbus choked, not MLS.

I may be wrong, but I don't believe that the USSF has anything to do with going to a single table, relegation, or promotion in MLS or any other league in the US. Their responsibilities involve sanctioning domestic cup competitions, overseeing the various senior and youth national teams, and serving as American soccer's representative in dealings with other regional federations, F.A.s, and international competitions (Gold Cup, Confederations Cup, Olympics, World Cup, etc.).

Finally, while I'd like to see a single table with relegation and promotion, you need other viable leagues to make this happen, and at present, what would be the "second tier" league- the USL- is in shambles. Several teams have left it to form a breakaway league and the future of those who did not break away is, at best, uncertain. Should the rumors of an "MLS2" prove to be true, these things may happen in the near future, but to go bring aboard the USL or USL2 at present would be foolish.

Maybe MLS shouldn't have used lame rip off names like "Real _________" or "________ United".

I can't take it seriously.
