NFL Quick Hits
I know I’ve been a bit tardy in developing stories lately. However, I have to help run this joint from time to time, patrons. And I do know that Style Points does the NFL reviews quite a bit, and yes, I do enjoy them a lot.
But I decided it’s time for the rest of the public to take a look inside some of what the NFL sends me for “notable news.” More of this after the jump.
Hit #1 – New NFL Series on truTV
I received this article yesterday, and I think it’s going to be quite interesting. So, first, the blurb.
This February, truTV and NFL Films will provide unprecedented, exclusive access to what really goes on behind the scenes of professional football in the new series NFL FULL CONTACT. The series, which premieres Monday, Feb. 8, at 10 p.m. (ET/PT), will follow the action from draft day to the Super Bowl, showing football fans what happens beyond the playing field.
They say in advertising, “Timing is everything.” This series will debut exactly 24 hours after the Super Bowl. As always, Steve Sabol will be the executive producer for NFL Films on this project. The series will begin with the Opening Night game that featured the Titans at Steelers, and will conclude with Super Bowl XLV in Miami. If you’re going to suffer football withdrawal after the season ends, this might not be a bad show to check out.
Hit #2 – NFL Flex Scheduling
I have good news if you’re a fan of Chunky Soup or Sulk Cannon. The Eagles at Bears game will remain the Sunday Night Game for Week 11. Also, the Tennessee at Houston game will be the Monday Night Football game. So, for those still foggy on flex scheduling…
The NFL will utilize “flexible scheduling” on Sundays in Weeks 11-17. Flexible scheduling will ensure quality matchups in all NFL Sunday time slots in those weeks and give teams a chance to play their way onto primetime and into the late-afternoon 4:15 PM ET time slot on CBS and FOX.
For each of the flexible scheduling weeks with the exception of Week 17, the NFL will announce the start times of games on Sundays no later than 12 days prior to that weekend. To ensure a Sunday night game and doubleheader games with playoff implications in Week 17, the flexible scheduling decision for that Sunday may be made on six days notice.
Got that one? Most of the season will be svcheduled 12 days in advance, with the exception of Week 17. If there’s an important playoff changing game, six days notice will be used to show those games late or in prime time.
Hit #3 – Division Leaders at the Half
My final hit is to name the division leaders (so far) in the NFL. For some of the patrons, now isn’t the time to give up hope. But if you’re a Titans, Browns, Bucs, Skins, Raiders, Rams, Lions or Chiefs fan, hope is going to get very limited over the next eight weeks. So, the leaders are…
AFC
- AFC East: New England Patriots at 6-2
- AFC West: Denver Broncos at 6-2
- AFC North: Cincinnati Bengals at 6-2 (Has perfect record over division)
- AFC South: Indianapolis Colts at 8-0
NFC
- NFC East: Dallas Cowboys at 6-2
- NFC West: Arizona Cardinals at 5-3
- NFC North: Minnesota Vikings at 7-1
- NFC South: New Orleans Saints at 8-0
From what we can see, the runaway division in both conferences appears to be the South. But not so. In both divisions, the lead is by three games, and the NFL leader board can change drastically in eight weeks. Also, the NFC West is a very bad division; the second place teams in that division are the 49ers and Seahawks, tied at 3-5.
The AFC West is also a very bad division, but the Chargers are only a game behind. If the Chargers continue on a winning trend combined with a losing trend by the Broncos, then the Chargers might be on top when Week 17 comes around.
In Which We Discuss Pick ‘Em
It seems our Pick ‘Em league has been a bit schizophrenic in who the leaders are. Here’s the board:
- Picking the losers @ 93 PTS. Record: 93-36
- trojanbrand @ 88 PTS. Record: 88-41
- The Voodoo People @ 87 PTS. Record: 87-42
- Casual Socks @ 86 PTS. Record: 86-43
- mekalek @ 86 PTS. Record: 86-43
- Car Boat Enthusiast @ 86 PTS. Record: 86-43
- Imari Tarred @ 86 PTS. Record: 86-43
- Boys in Blue @ 86 PTS. Record: 86-43
- Logic @ 85 PTS. Record: 85-44
- Old King Clancy @ 84 PTS. Record: 84-45
- Afino’s Obscene Pick Set Name @ 84 PTS. Record: 84-45
- The Speed Weeders @ 83 PTS. Record: 83-46
- Green Eggs & Fulham @ 83 PTS. Record: 83-46
- Bucholtz’s Bonecrushers @ 83 PTS. Record: 83-46
- AA @ 82 PTS. Record: 82-47
- Corruption @ 82 PTS. Record: 82-47
- Gally @ 82 PTS. Record: 82-47
- This Guy’s Picks @ 81 PTS. Record: 81-48
- Break Favre’s Neck @ 75 PTS. Record: 75-54
- Boldenone undecylenate @ 73 PTS. Record: 73-56
- Sculptor?!? @ 71 PTS. Record: 71-58
- lowercase’s losers @ 66 PTS. Record: 66-63
- HernandezStache @ 58 PTS. Record: 58-71
- F’(x) @ 19 PTS. Record: 19-110
- Notorious P I X @ 13 PTS. Record: 13-116
- Viva le gimp @ 2 PTS. Record: 2-127
8 more weeks of Pick ‘Em remain, and I think that board is probably changing. The top three probably won’t stay the top three - I can say that with confidence because I’m the sorry prick in 3rd. So, to those who are worried about it – you don’t have to worry. Relegation spots are already occupied.
That’s all that my brain will let me spit out for today. You think my opinions are good or bad? Then comment below. Also, any hits I missed can be given in the comments.

What! You better believe I’m staying in first. And I’m NOT getting overconfident!
