Lets get to opening the packages...NOW

Let's get to opening the packages...NOW

I think the Beach Boys put it best when they exclaimed “Christmas comes this time each year!”.  Well put, lads, well put.  Let’s get on with the Monday events, shall we?  Right.

Oh tannenbaum, oh tannenbaum, how lovely are thy branches?

  • I have no idea how anyone gambles on the NFL and makes money, honestly.  One week after systematically dismantling the vastly superior Minnesota Vikings, the Arizona Cardinals traveled to San Francisco, turned the ball over SEVEN times, and were humbled by the 49ers 24-9.  This keeps the 49ers on the periphery of a weak playoff race in the NFC while simultaneously not allowing the Cardinals to clinch the NFC West.  The Cardinals now travel to Detroit to take on a “We’d like to be doing anything but this.”-looking bunch of Lions, while the 49ers fly cross-country to face the Eagles.
  • NBA winners last night included Orlando, Philadelphia (!?!), Boston, Dallas, Denver, Minnesota (!?!), and the Clippers (!?!).  Something must be in the locker room eggnog at a few of these arenas.
  • NHL winners included Philadelphia, Toronto, Florida, Atlanta, Nashville, Buffalo, Detroit and Vancouver.  Between the Sixers and Flyers both winning and the news that Doc Halladay may be arriving, it was a banner day at the old Bender household here in Philly.  SMOKE UP JOHNNY!
  • Speaking of the Doc Halladay thing, here’s the skinny from the Mothership.  Reaction here is different than I imagined.  Clifford Phifer Lee has made quite an impression.  Still can’t go on three days rest, though, and Halladay can.  That’s one of the main reasons this is happening.
  • Your TiWoo aggregate: A Canadian doctor associated with Tiger is being investigated for illegal drugs, an interview conducted before Thanksgiving is getting airplay, his popularity is beginning to erode, his absence will hurt the PGA, and in case you missed it, Whitlock had more to say over the weekend.  Oh, I wasn’t done, sorry.  Tiger may have seen the Scarlet Woman this past weekend, may have been with another woman in his marital home while his father was dying, and might be missing a tooth due to his wife beating him with a pitching wedge.
  • Attention fantasy footballers still in the playoff hunt:  Dwayne Bowe is back from suspension.  Hit the waiver wires immediately.  Not me though, thanks to Andre Johnson.  [cries into pillow]
  • One of St. Timothy the Brave’s parables is to stay until the job is done, and since He hath spaketh, Jake Locker hath listeneth.  Or something.
  • Only one top 25 NCAA basketball team in action last night, as #15 Georgia Tech curb-stomped UT-Chattanooga.  I always liked Bobby Cremins hair.  Such a handsome fellow he was.
  • There are midweek fixtures in the Premier League today and tomorrow, because the English insist upon playing as many games in one of the coldest months of the year to test your manhood.  We’re masochistic that way.
  • Godzilla just turned up in Anaheim.  No word on Cloverfield’s whereabouts, though.
  • Jim Leavitt, head foobaw coach at South Florida, may or may not have tried to kick the crap out of one of his players during a recent halftime tirade.  He says he didn’t, tons of witnesses says he did.  [starts whistling "Jimmy crack corn, and I don't care"]
  • The greatest movie that Mike Tyson has ever been in is out on DVD today, just in time for the holidays.  I love Mike Tyson in a totally manly way and want him to continue to make awesome cameos in movies.  There.  I said it.
  • Dana White says it should be another six weeks or so til the Heavyweight picture in the UFC gets sorted out.  Can’t we just let Rampage and Rashad Evans fight in the meantime?  Those boys are FUN.

That’s it for this fine Tuesday.  Have a lovely day and we’ll be at Weed’s Sportress for tonight’s festivities.  Do show some love to our family of friends in our blogroll, won’t you?  They are all fine sites to visit.  Cheers, and have a great day.

  • Out of curiosity, I checked out that Whitlock column; it is horrible. I couldn’t make it to the end of it. While: ‘His columns are humorous, thought-provoking, agenda free, honest, unpredictable and uncomfortable for white and black people comfortable with their biases,’ it seemed to me like he is a writer with delusions of grandeur, but lacking the intellectual capabilities (at least in this article) to back up his assertions.

He seems to be like a Simmons who writes about race rather than 80’s television, very emotional yet little substance.

Unless this is a meta-critical article written about the way articles are written (including his own), but that seems beyond his grasp.

  • I’m not entirely certain as to why, but I REALLY dug that video/song combo.
