Personally speaking, this was one of the best sports weekends I’ve had in years. For starters, the weekend kicked off with Big Blue Madness. I thought I was excited for John Wall and Eric Bledsoe before, but now I can barely contain it. Bonus: I saw clips of Late Night in the Phog that included Xavier Henry and the other Jayhawk freshman making total fools of themselves, and scenes of UNC’s party including some very white dancing from Roy Williams. I hope for a Kentucky-Kansas match up because the pre-season talk around those two teams is completely electric. I have a countdown going for the start of the season – November 2nd starts the exhibition games and I will be watching them.
But this is supposed to be about football. Well, fortunately, it was a pretty, pretty, pretty…pretty good day for football. There were so many upsets, and boy-howdy were they good ones. More after the jump.

While the majority of the sport-watching community is a tizzy over tennis, or soccer, or baseball, I’m counting down the hours until the start of college football season. Nothing against tennis, soccer, or baseball: they are all fine sports. Even the Senate doesn’t know what to do with itself without football: Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) sought a hearing to look at whether Bowl Championship Series is in compliance with federal antitrust laws. Citing the Sherman Antitrust Act, Hatch suggests that the BCS does nothing more than reduce competition, and suggests that the Senate must step in to ensure a change, preferably to a play-off type situation. I am glad that Congress has nothing more pressing to spend time on than college football. It makes me feel like I’m really dedicating my time to something useful and important by blogging about it. Thanks for the ego boost, Senators! Look, this is the second time this year that Congress decided to look into this mess, so I won’t cover it here. They keep looking at it and looking at it and nothing ever changes. (more…)
